Ex employee of sallie mae! Please read! 2 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: -5
I read some of the messages on here and got a little upset and offended personally b/c I was that person that called delqent accts. To start I feel like a lot of these people want to blame their finacial woes on sallie mae when its not Saliie maes fault. The reason these borrowers are broke and in debit is b/c of bad judgment in schools(that promise to find them a job when they grad) so they wait on the school instead of lookin for work themselves, majors( going to school for occupations that's not in demand) and not reading what they sign their names too( them high A$$ intrest rates that they agree too). As I stated earlier I was a collector, yes I called many of people many a time a day. The same people that's on here saying that we're rude and hang up on them is saying it b/c 1. they don't understand that they are in collection we are collecting on a debt not calling as a customer service rep to make friends witn them. 2. it's our job that's how we make a living so if we have to call them a million times a day that's what we'll do 3. Most of the borrowers are rude screaming and hollering like we owe them, we are humans @ the end of the day regardless of what our jobs are so if you get upset and start cursing and hollering @ us expect for us to end the call and theres always a warning of the call being ended b4 we actually h/u. And stop forgen ya'll mommas, aunts, daddys, and grandparents names and then get mad @ us when they file fraud and no programs can be done on the actt b/c clearly thats ya'll fault.

Linrn54,

Thank you for taking the time to post your viewpoint. I wish more of Sallie Mae's (ex-)employees would do so. I reserve the right, however, to suspect that you might just be a troll (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll) and NOT an ex-employee of Sallie Mae. I say that because I couldn't help but notice your atrocious grammar and spelling. People who complain about the torture of terror suspects should try reading your post.

I agree with you in regards to the people that fail themselves and are looking for somebody else to blame. This site is not for those individuals. It's for people that have fallen victim to a rigged system. That said...

I am a full-time industrial controls technician, and thought it would be a great idea to further my eduction. Trust me, I have no problems repaying my student loans. I had a rough beginning with repayment, but Sallie Mae was at fault for that.

Sallie Mae continued to call me multiple times each hour AFTER I made the arrangements to become current! I made the payments, but Sallie Mae applied my payments to the wrong loans!!! It took several months to get it straightened out, but it got straightened out. Of course we're going to start yelling and swearing at Sallie Mae reps when they behave like that! What the hell do you expect, a medal?

I eventually spoke with an extremely pleasant and helpful individual at Sallie Mae that took care of it for me. She told me that it happens quite often. She even submitted a request for the negative marks against me on my credit record to be removed. I heard back from another employee at Sallie Mae some time later who told me they couldn't do it because the deliquency was MY FAULT! I couldn't win.

Now where the hell do you get off coming here to accuse borrowers (with co-signers) who have become deliquent of criminal acitivites? My wife co-signed for my loans, and the Admissions Counselor had to talk to her before they would approve any loans. I'd be willing to bet there are Admissions Counselors or Sallie Mae Reps that aren't exactly doing their jobs if the signature of co-signers are being forged.

Finally, here are some e-mails I've received from people who haven't necessarily posted thier stories on the site. Pay careful attention to the first e-mail below. It completely debunks your statement that Sallie Mae's collectors are nothing more than sweet little angels just trying to make a living.

Message: This will make me the bad guy, but for three months, I worked at Sallie Mae. They give you a month of training so that you can understand how student loans work and then they send you to the call center floor. They never really prepare you for the real job that you are doing. Collecting. You are a collector, taught to be hard nosed and without feelings to all of the excuses of why a person can't pay. I have made so many people cry. It was easy at first. You start in 30 day delinquency where people usually just forgot to send the payment. in 30 day they also still have a lot of options like forbearance. Then after 3 weeks you go into a different departement where people are 60 or 90 days delinquent. This is worse. They have no options and the amount due is higher. If you can't get a payment, you have to get a second voice, a supervisor gets on the phone and tells them that they will default on the loan and we can garnish up to 90% of wages and social security. Some pay, but some still can't. Then we continue calling everyday til they pay. Sometimes 20-30 times until someone actually answers the phone. We actually get prizes and bonuses for the amount we collect. It's the only reason anyone stays. I hated my job. I wanted to whip out my credit card and pay everyone's loan. I never felt so guilty doing my job. It depressed me. There were people who had lost their job, had gotten hurt and was now on disability,r those who were living out of their cars or shelters, and Sallie Mae still wanted their money. Sure, some people didn't want to pay, but others truly couldn't. I got screamed at everyday. There was a man who almost had his loan paid off. He had gotten hurt on the job and couldn't work. His disability had not went through yet so he had no money. His wife was working a part time job.Something she had not had to do in 20 years. They were broke. This man cried because he said if he paid the payment, I would be taking food off his table. He truly wanted to pay. I believe that. He just couldn't. I almost cried with him. I had to get the second the voice and told my supervisor the situation. He got on there and told the guy that he wasn't trying hard enough and was a deadbeat. It was horrible. Another person had just got out of law school. She got pregnant and had complications of a weak heart. She has had two open heart surgeries and her baby is barely three, she can't work, she gets food stamps and SSI, she is very embarrased, she want to pay, but she only gets $351 a month in SSI and her monthly loan payment is over $600. How is she supposed to pay? She now gets calls everyday demanding money, she is stressed by all of this and this is bad on her heart. I can't do a job where I feel like a criminal. I am still looking for another job, but I don't need Sallie Mae's money anymore.

Message: There needs to be a legal recourse for students who bought into the hype of pursuing higher education. Not only has Sallie Mae bought my additional loans, but they have made my life a living hell. Numerous calls not only in one day, but even in the hour. I had contacted a representative to defer my payments due to unemployment. They not only took my payment, but failed to send the proper paper work. I am now unemployed and harassed. Something needs to be done. People that haven't got money for education should not be taken advantage of because of the desire to become something better than they are today.

Message: Sallie Mae sucks. I hate them. I wish they would just go away. I applied for a deferment and faxed all my personal info to them, and these people refused me because they said I did not sent my check stubs----BUT I DID!!! Now, some Sallie Mae creep reject rapist is walking around with my info. Next, I plan on sending the info again, but I will send it certified. It is impossible to speak to any American and the Indians do not understand the concept of needing a loan to further education--so they just keep saying the same thing to you over and over. "Well, you know, your $500 payment is late." Oh really, no S#@T!!! That's why I'm applying for a deferment Einstein!!! I'm a single mom and graduated just last year and I'm trying to find a job where I make over $26,000 a year (what I'm making now). I had to deal with Katrina on top of it all. All I needed was a little time!! Sallie Mae is horrible. Customer service stinks. If you need money for school, DO NOT USE SALLIE MAE. BEG YOUR FAMILY, TAKE A 2ND JOB, TAKE 1 CLASS A SEMESTER, BUT DO NOT USE SALLIE MAE----PLEASE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Post this somewhere where the people can see it. I want so bad to put Sallie Mae and all the CEO's out of business. I want them to feel PAIN.

Message: I am looking for valid causes of action for my wife's sallie mae loan - I will file in federal court in Philadelphia -
Sallie mae received full payoff for the lloan on october 10 2007 - at the same time they sold the loan to usa funds - usa funds has entered negative credit history since november and filed a wage garnishment - salle mae denies receipt of funds - usa funds states that they don't have proof of payoff and are beligernent. I finally have the trace showing deposit into the sallie mae wachovia account on 10/10 - what causes of action do we have if they don't mop this up quickly?

Message: I am writing because my fiancee is being hounded by Sallie Mae. We receive on the average of 7 phone calls a day by different reps. of Sallie Mae. My fiancee helped my son get a $2,000.00 loan for Computer School. He was to be the Co-signer but somehow they made him the borrower. He is 64 years old and on total disability and receiving SSI only. We were paying on the loan for 2 years and somehow we still owe $1,379.00. With his income and what little my son brings living in FL. it has been hard making the payments. We are being hounded by calls everyday and I told them I would make a payment by the end of the month but they still keep calling. We write down everytime they call and it is 7 times a day and always a different person calling. I would STRONGLY advise NO ONE EVER get a student loan through SALLIE MAE. Times are hard right now with the high taxes, gasoline prices, food, and utilities, but they don't seen to care or understand.

Message: My boyfriend had a student loan with a company that sold his loan to Sallie Mae. This was 7 years ago or more. The loan was paid off. Someone from Sallie Mae called him 4 months ago telling him he still owes 3,000. He has no way of proving this loan was paid off. They are a scam. Someone pocketed this cash and why has it taken them years to contact him on this?? That is the fishy part. They wait until they know theres a good chance folks don't have their information anymore on these things. And they refused to send him any information on this loan. Now they are threatening to take his tax money. What can people do?? Please help.

Thank you

Message: I was hired into Sallie Mae back in May of 2007. I was hired in as a COBOL 2 programmer analyst - I was one of the guys behind making sure they got their money.

I was let go yesterday.

It needs to be understood that Sallie Mae is a horrible system for what they do for students. It pained me everyday thinking that I was contributing to the student loan crisis in America. Personally, I absolutely HATED my job their as well as almost all the people whom I worked with. They all wear sad or mad faces and have almost no personality. Granted, most the people I dealt with on a day-to-day basis were computer nerds, but still, I've known many "normal" computer nerds in my day. These at Sallie Mae's "Data Center" in Indianapolis "took the cake".

I'm happy I lost my job there, but sad because I have no other job. I accepted the job originally because I was a poor college kid who graduated and needed sustenance. If I knew what I would have been getting myself into, however, I would've NEVER taken the job.

Instead of having a wonderful job with lots of money, etc (like they promised), I am now stuck with a car, apartment house and other various bills to pay for with 3 weeks of severance pay.

Sallie Mae is unconsciously evil. You can't blame Al Lord for much of this since anyone in his shoes would take as much advantage of his situation as possible. Who wouldn't want their own golf course!? The true evil behind all this is the Government - because they just don't know what their doing anymore.

The water is overflowing the bucket now. I'm just scared about what will happen when it finally tips over. ...Another Great Depression perhaps?

Message: Hello, Christopher. I am trying to persuade Sallie Mae to remove several negative statements from my credit report on a previous account that has been "paid and closed" via consolidation. Although this previous account has essentially one account number, it appears on my credit file SIX times -- much to my chagrin! I now realize that I should have taken a look at my credit report BEFORE I consolidated my loans, but unfortunately, I did not. Can you offer me any suggestions on how to convince Sallie Mae to remove these previous status codes? Thank you. -Natasha M.

Message: I was in a forberance with sallie mae. I called them and it was set up in January I was told that it would be 6 month before paying back. Which is June..Correct? Well I decided to go into my account in May to check and make sure that everything was ok. At this time I witnessed a late fee. I was told that my account was retroactivated back to november which was told then that my account was due in May. So it had assesed a late fee. I am unemployed and will be until the end of August first of September I work for a school. Anyway I asked for another forberance. And if they would remove the late fee. I was told that I needed to pay the payment the late fee and a forberance fee of $50...hey come on unemployed here. I said that I could bairly pay the $50 there was no way all of it. So they said ok you can get the forberance but you need to pay over $100 to do so. Again a repeat of the first message. My loan started at 4,838 and now after 6 month forberance the first time it is reaching $6,000. I contacted the BBB and working that route now. I think that I will take it to court if they force my hand.

Is this person serious? Clearly brain washing is part of Sallie Mae training. I suggest you try to call your own customer service number for starters. Then try speaking to someone who refuses to both give you a direct number to call and or let you talk to a supervisor. Sallie Mae has probably the worst customer service skills I have ever been witness to. Nobody is expecting a customer service agent, collections agent or anyone else from Sallie Mae to be our friends. But being a little friendly would not hurt. Yes there are dead beats out there. But don't treat everyone like a dead beat.

Sallie Mae has the worst billing and organizational structure. One hand does not know what the other does from loan application to loan re-payment. There billing updating is outrageous and often wrong. Hence a lot of unneeded and unwarranted nasty phone calls. Not just to the loan holder but to the cosigner. The school I graduated from or flight school rather, has removed all ties with Sallie Mae because of there terrible business tactics. You wonder why some people get mad when you talk to them. Well in my dealings the Sallie Mae representative has used zero common sense or even attempted to fully understand the problem or the customers needs. We are customers after all. I've never sworn or uttered needles or abusive words to any representative. But as Sallie Mae has shown you do not have to utter bad words to show contempt. Sallie Mae has shown me nothing but contempt. Since my dealings with Sallie Mae I now record every conversation and get every representatives name.

There needs to be some sort of monitoring by our government of Sallie Mae's business practices in lew of all the tax payer money that has been given to them. Sham companies like Sallie Mae, Freddy Mac and all the other sham financial institutions need to be fully investigated and exposed.
